Where to Look for a Lewis County Record

Lewis County has no official online New York jail roster or mugshot gallery in the county sources reviewed, so many custody questions start with the jail or sheriff's office by phone. The main local jail contact is Lewis County Jail and the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, 5252 Outer Stowe Street, Lowville, NY 13367. Sheriff Michael Carpinelli and Undersheriff Jason McIntosh lead the Sheriff's Office. The main sheriff and jail phone is 315-376-3511; the State Commission of Correction directory also lists a jail phone at 315-376-5290. The jail page names Tim Thayer II, Lieutenant, as the jail contact. No separate public records-counter hours were found, so call before visiting.

  • For a person believed to be in Lewis County Jail, start with jail inmate records and the jail phone numbers above.
  • For booking photos, use jail roster mugshots and remember that New York Public Officers Law Section 89(2)(b)(viii) limits disclosure of law-enforcement booking photographs when privacy interests apply.
  • For criminal charges after an arrest, use court records after a jail arrest. Lewis County Court, the District Attorney, and the County Clerk are at 7660 North State Street, Lowville, NY 13367. District Attorney Jeffery G. Tompkins can be reached at 315-376-5390.
  • For the county facility page, see Lewis County Jail.
  • For records not released informally, use the Lewis County FOIL process through the Records Access Officer, c/o Lewis County Attorney's Office, 7660 North State Street, Lowville, NY 13367, or the county FOIL form at lewiscountyny.gov/departments/county-attorney/foil-request-form/. The county lists a 25-cent-per-page copy fee and says it will respond, or provide an estimated response if not addressed, within five days.
  • For a sentenced New York state prisoner, search the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision lookup at nysdoccslookup.doccs.ny.gov.
  • For custody notification, use New York VINELink at vinelink.vineapps.com/state/NY.
  • For federal sentenced custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. For immigration custody, use ICE's detainee locator. These are separate from Lewis County Jail and New York DOCCS.
